Last Sunday at the Vancouver Sun Run, 24-year-old marathoner Melissa had just crossed the 8 km mark when her leg cramped so badly she nearly collapsed. As the crowd cheered for other runners, one man — later identified as 62-year-old Ken, a retired firefighter — noticed her struggling. Without hesitation, he jogged over, supporting her weight and encouraging her with every step.
